San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO â Feb. 25, 2005 â The San Antonio Rampage announced today that the club has acquired on loan center Andre Savage from the Hershey Bears and in exchange have loaned left wing Josh Olson to the Bears.
Savage, 29, has recorded seven goals and 23 assists for 30 points in 53 games with Hershey this season. Currently in his seventh professional season, Savage has played in 66 NHL games between the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers, recording 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points. The 6-foot, 195-pound forward helped the AHL's Providence Bruins capture the 1999 Calder Cup while being named to the league's All-Rookie Team.
The Ottawa, Ontario native played four seasons (1994-98) with the NCAA's Michigan Tech Huskies, collecting 52 goals and 91 assists for 143 points in 149 games. In that span, he became just the second player in school history to lead the team in scoring for three consecutive seasons (95-98) and was named a WCHA First Team All-Star in his senior season.
Since turning pro in 1998 when he signed with the Boston Bruins, Savage has been selected to play in two AHL All-Star Classics (1999 and 2000). After scoring a goal in the 1999 All-Star game, he missed the 2000 All-Star Classic due to his recall to Boston. In his professional career, Savage has averaged 19 goals and 28 assists in over six seasons. He led Providence in scoring last season with 46 points (16-30=46).
Olson, 23, has played in 53 games with the Rampage, recording nine goals and seven assists for 16 points.
The Rampage (23-31-2-4) conclude their 12-game road trip in Grand Rapids on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 7:05 p.m. CST. San Antonio returns home on Sunday, Feb. 28 to host I-10 rival Houston at 4:30 p.m. CST at the SBC Center.
