Sound Tigers score two power-play goals to beat Binghamton

Jeff Tambellini and Ben Walter both scored their eighth goals of the season on the power-play to beat help the Bridgeport Sound Tigers defeat the Binghamton Senators 2-1, snapping the Sound Tigers three-game losing streak. Starting goalie Mike Morrison finished the game with 32 saves, collecting his sixth win of the season.

Morrison and his counterpart in net for the Senators, Brian Elliott, kept the game scoreless in the first period with Morrison stopping eight shots and Elliott turning aside 10.

Four minutes into the second period, Binghamton defenseman, Matt Kinch took a two-minute hooking minor sending the Sound Tigers on the man-advantage. Tambellini would make the Senators pay when he scored his eighth goal of the season on a quick shot from the far corner that went through Elliott giving the Sound Tigers the 1-0 lead. Walter and Frans Nielsen had the assists on Tambellini's goal 4:15 into the period.

In the third period, Binghamton would even the score at 1-1 when Ilya Zubov scored his fifth goal of the season on a scramble in front that he was able to jam past Morrison. Senators' leading scorer Denis Hamel and Alexander Nikulin assisted on the goal. The way Morrison and Elliott were playing, the game seemed destined for overtime but it was Walter who would give the Sound Tigers the game-winning goal with just under four minutes to play in the third period. Jamie Fraser sent a wrist shot toward the front of the net where Walter was screening Elliott and was able to get a stick on the shot to redirect it under the net-minder for the 2-1 Sound Tigers lead. Nielsen collected his second assist of the game on the game-winning goal.

Morrison would shut the door the rest of the way making 12 saves in the final period and had a total of 32 on 33 shots for the game. Elliott stopped 28 of 30 Sound Tiger shots. The Sound Tigers relied on their special teams tonight going 2-3 on the man-advantage and a perfect 6-6 on the penalty-kill.

The Sound Tigers will play at home tomorrow against the Albany River Rats and host their annual teddy bear toss where all fans are asked to bring stuffed animals to the game to throw onto the ice when the Sound Tigers score their first goal. All of the teddy bears will go to kids in local hospitals in the local area.
