P-Bruins Defeat Devils 6-1

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Lowell Devils 6-1 Saturday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Sean Curry, Matt Lashoff, Jeff Hoggan, David Krejci, T.J. Trevelyan and Pascal Pelletier. The 22-4-2 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Sunday at the Dunk for Pascal Pelletier Poster Night against the Houston Aeros at 4:05 p.m. Providence remains six points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack with one game in hand.

In the opening period, Providence began the scoring at the 4:29 mark. The Devils turned the puck over in their own end and Curry took a shot from the right point. The puck went off a Devils player and was redirected into the net. The goal was unassisted. Providence took a 2-0 advantage at the 18:51 mark. Lashoff took a shot from the left face off circle and the puck went off Lowell goaltender Frank Doyle and trickled into the net. Krejci had an assist as well as Kevin Schaeffer, playing in his first AHL contest.

In the second period, the P-Bruins took a 3-0 advantage at the 6:23 mark. Hoggan tallied his eleventh goal of the season with Trevelyan and Byron Bitz recording the assists. Providence scored their first power play goal of the game at the 8:49 mark. Martins Karsums held the puck in the left face off circle and sent it to Krejci at the other side of the net. He shot the puck past Devils net minder Jordan Parise, who replaced Doyle after the first period, and into the back of the net, giving the P-Bruins a 4-0 advantage. Lowell got on the board with a power play goal of its own at the 11:39 mark. Grant Marshall tallied his fourth goal of the season with Petr Vrana and Noah Clarke picking up the assists. The P-Bruins finished off the scoring in the second period at the 14:35 mark. The P-Bruins had a 3-on-2 advantage when Wacey Rabbit passed the puck to Bitz. He took a shot, which was stopped, but the rebound went right to Trevelyan and he scored. Providence went into the second intermission leading 5-1.

The P-Bruins began the third period on a 5-on-3 power play and scored only 1:18 into the period. From the right face off circle Pelletier slapped the puck past Parise and into the net. Curry and Krejci grabbed the assists as the P-Bruins went on to the 6-1 victory.

Andy Franck stopped 18 of 19 shots for the P-Bruins, while Doyle made 12 saves and Parise 15 saves for the Devils. The P-Bruins were 2-for-6 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
