Adirondack Phantoms News Release
NORFOLK, VA - Scott Munroe submitted a 25-save shutout to bolster the Philadelphia Phantoms to a 1-0 win over the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday night at Norfolk Scope. The win, Munroe's second shutout of the season, gave the Phantoms their second victory of the weekend despite scoring a total of just two regulation goals.
Saturday's scoring was provided by Darroll Powe, who won the game with an unassisted, shorthanded breakaway near the halfway point of the second period. Powe had just come off the bench when he stepped in the way of a Norfolk pass just inside the Phantoms blue line. He took the puck the other way and beat Admirals goaltender Karri Ramo, moving the puck from the forehand to the backhand before tucking it past the netminder's outstretched left leg.
Goals have been scarce for the Phantoms this weekend, but the goaltending and defense have made up for it. Last night's 2-1 win over Toronto also featured just one regulation goal for the Phantoms before the team pulled out the win in the shootout. Tonight, in addition to Munroe's efforts, the rest of the roster picked it up defensively. Perhaps most notable was a shot with 12 minutes remaining that trickled by Munroe, but was cleared off the goal line by Ryan Potulny.
Philadelphia finished with 27 shots on the night, and both teams were 0-for-7 on the power play. It was the Phantoms sixth shutout as a team this season and boosted the team's record to 19-7-1 for 39 points, giving the club a five-point lead over Albany in the East Division.
The Phantoms are in Norfolk on Saturday night to meet the Admirals before returning to the Wachovia Spectrum on Sunday evening to host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 5:05. The annual Helping Hands Auction will take place during this game, with all proceeds benefiting the Children's Miracle Network at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
