Peoria Rivermen News Release
Five power play goals dotted the score sheet between the Peoria Rivermen and Rochester Americans Saturday night, but it was Ryan Glenn's shorthanded marker that decided the game in a 4-3 Rivermen win in front of 4,358 at Carver Arena.
Rochester scored all three of its goals with the man advantage, starting with Marek Zagrapan's one-timer at 9:20 of the second period on a Clarke MacArthur feed.
Peoria replied to tie the game before the end of the frame, as Charles Linglet's power play rejoinder was punched home after David Shantz stopped Trent Whitfield's attempt from in close. Micki DuPont also listed an assist on the play.
The Rivermen opened the third period with three straight goals, beginning with Nikolay Lemtyugov notching the game's only even-strength tally at 3:05 from Mike Glumac.
Glumac then took a return favor from Lemtyugov for a power play marker at 7:36, jamming home a rebound that appeared to bounce off the mask of Shantz and lie behind him on the ice. DuPont also notched his second assist of the night on the goal.
Then it was Glenn's turn. With Peoria shorthanded and Rochester pressing to get back into the game, the smooth-skating d-man took the puck at his own line, drove down the right wing into the Rochester zone, and backhanded the puck past Shantz along the ice for the eventual game winner at 8:55.
The Americans refused to go quietly, cashing in on two more power plays to make it a 4-3 game with 5:01 remaining in regulation time. A late charge at the end of the game was short-circuited by Rob Globke's holding the stick call at 16:43, and Peoria held on for the win.
Chris Beckford-Tseu notched his 75th AHL win with 30 saves on 33 shots against, while Shantz dropped to 1-8-1 on the year with 27 stops in the loss.
Peoria finished 2-for-6 on the power play, Rochester 3-for-10.
The Rivermen will now take to the road for three straight games next week, beginning Wednesday in Chicago against the Wolves at 7 pm. Friday and Saturday the team will play a pair against the AHL's newest squad, the Lake Erie Monsters. Game time for the weekend set is 6:30 CST, with the pre-game show kicking off one-half hour before game time on your Home for Rivermen Hockey, 96.5 ESPN Radio.
