Wolves Bite Stars on Dog Night

Iowa Chops News Release

Saturday night was "Pucks for Pups" night at Wells Fargo Arena. The promotion offered Stars fans a chance to bring their 4 legged friends to a game. Partial proceeds from the event went to benefit the Animal Rescue League... and it ended up as a night to go to the dogs.

The Chicago Wolves scored early and often tonight. The wolves scored three in the 1st, two in the 2nd and three in the 3rd period in route a 10-2 defeat of the Iowa Stars. The 10 goals was a season high for the division leading Wolves. It also has the dubious distinction of being the most goals the Iowa Stars have ever given up in a single game.

Brett Sterling started the scoring for the Wolves 3:56 into the 1st period. Bryan Little scored less than a minute and a half later, to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead early on. Nolan Baumgartner scored for the Stars. Baumgartner's goal came on the powerplay at the 10:16 mark in the 1st period. That would be the closest the Stars would get on the night. The Wolves added another in the final minutes of the 1st to take a 3-1 lead.

Chicago added 4 in the 2nd period. Kevin Doell scored the first three of the period, and did so in record fashion. Doell's three goals came in just 1:17. Colin Stuart for Chicago and BJ Crombeen for the Stars each scored a goal to finish out the period 7-2 in favor of Chicago.

The 112 dogs in attendance continued to howl as Chicago scored 3 more in the 3rd period. Joel Kwiatkowski, Bryan Little and Karel Pilar had the goals. Little and Pilar added their two goals in the final minutes of the game to extend the lead to 10-2.

The Stars showed spirit throughout the game but were noticeably sluggish coming off of a game last night in Milwaukee. Despite outshooting the Wolves 30-17 the Stars were unable to generate enough quality scoring chances to match the sure-fire shooting of the Wolves. The wolves 10 goals came on just 17 shots.

STARS INFO: The Iowa Stars travel to Quad City on Wednesday for a 7:05 PM face off. Than return home of Friday, December 21 for a 7:07 PM face off against the Houston Aeros.

See Stars! The Iowa Stars will visit Blank Children's Hospital on Tuesday, December 18th. Stars will also take part in the KCCI Toys For Tots Celebrity Phone Bank on Tuesday during KCCI's 5 PM newscast.
