San Antonio Rampage News Release

Bridgeport, CT (February 11, 2009) - San Antonio have earned points in four straight road games including tonight's heartbreaker, a 4-3 loss in overtime, to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Wednesday.

Bridgeport began the night fourth in the East Division, however, their 61 point total would be good for a first place tie in the Atlantic.

Meanwhile, the Rampage entered seventh in the West, the first game since the season began that San Antonio has not been in last. Two points tonight could creep the Rampage to within six of a playoff spot.

San Antonio All-Star Brett MacLean got it started with his team leading 16th goal 2:33 into the game for 1-0 Rampage lead.

Later in the first, the Rampage looked to extend the lead on a power play but the AHL's top road unit gave up their league leading 12th shorthanded goal to Bridgeport center Kurtis McLean. The unassisted goal came with just under five minutes left in the first period and knotted the score at 1-1.

San Antonio entered ranked 13th on the power-play with 52 goals in 288 opportunities but number one on the road with 30 goals in 127 chances for a 23.6 percent success rate.

The Rampage went 0-2 on the man advantage in the first period and got outshot 7-4 by the Sound Tigers.

Tied entering the second, the Rampage withstood an early Bridgeport advantage staving off six minutes of five-on-four hockey through ten minutes of the frame.

The Sound Tigers could only get off six shots against the AHL's fifth ranked penalty killing team.

San Antonio would capitalize later in the second when Adam Keefe banged home his second goal of the season past Tobias Stephan at 15:47 of the period and 2-1 Rampage advantage.

The Sound Tigers sent out Stephan, backup goalie for the Dallas Stars (NHL) who was recently sent down to Bridgeport, and rested AHL number two ranked goalie Nathan Lawson. Lawson beat San Antonio 3-1 back on November 18th.

Bridgeport outshot the Rampage 10-6 in the second frame but found themselves down 2-1 facing a San Antonio squad that was 18-2-0-1 when leading after two.

With shots at a premium for San Antonio, they made the first one really count. Kevin Porter's goal 3:57 into the final frame gave him number six on the year and 3-1 Rampage lead. Porter's goal was the first shot for either team in the third period.

Bridgeport, however, continued to hammer away shots and finally broke through with just under eight minutes in regulation with back-to-back goals from Jaime Fraser and Jeremy Colliton. Fraser's goal with 7:53 remaining in the third was his fifth and came eight seconds before Colliton's fifth that tied the game at 3-3.

AHL January Goaltender of the Month, Josh Tordjman stopped 28-31 shots in regulation but the two Bridgeport goals on 14 shots sent the game to overtime.

Bridgeport was 0-7 on the power play through three frames but after they got a five-on-three advantage late in sudden death, the Sound Tigers finally capitalized when Mike Iggulden scored with forty-nine seconds left in overtime.

San Antonio moves to 1-2-2-1 on their 13-game Rodeo Road trip but 1-0-2-1 in their last four, collecting 5 points and moving up the West Division points standings.

On November 11th Bridgeport scored three third period goals to erase a 1-0 deficit, capped by an Iggulden empty netter with four seconds remaining.

The Rampage play their last Northeast game Friday in Providence before returning to the Midwest to take on Division rivals starting in Quad City on Saturday.
