Peoria Rivermen News Release

PEORIA, Ill. (February 11, 2009) - Manny Legace did not disappoint in his Peoria Rivermen debut as he made 21 saves only to see the Rockford IceHogs walk away with a 1-0 win on Wednesday night. Evan Brophey's goal at 5:51 of the second period stood up as the game-winner as the two teams went a combined 0-for-8 on the power play.

Legace, assigned from the St. Louis Blues on Sunday, saw his first American Hockey League action since Dec. 30, 2005 when he was a member of the Grand Rapids in a rehab assignment. Annti Niemi earned his second shutout of the season with his 22 save performance. He improved to 3-1-1 against the Rivemen this season.

The lone goal was scored in the opening minutes of the second period as Brophey, at the 5:51 mark, tipped home his 11th of the season. Pascal Pelletier found himself with room in the right circle after a pass from Jack Skille and wristed one towards the goal. Just as Legace reached out with the stick, it was deflected past him by Brophey for the eventual game winner.

All five of Rockford's power plays came in the first two periods while two of Peoria's three came during the final 20 minutes. Chris Porter and Mike Brennan's fight at 3:13 of the first period proved to be the only altercation of the game.

The same two teams will complete the home-and-home series on Friday at the MetroCentre in Rockford, Ill. The radio broadcast is available on Hippie 101.1FM as well as online through www.rivermen.net.
