Falcons Lose To Monarchs 5-2

February 11, 2009 - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Manchester Monarchs 5-2 on Wednesday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH. Colin McDonald gave Springfield a 1-0 lead just 34-seconds into the first period, followed by Viacheslav Trukhno scoring at 8:36 giving the Falcons an early 2-0 lead.

Manchester cut their deficit to 2-1 at 16:11 of the opening period when Teddy Purcell scored on the power play.

In the second period, Manchester tied the score at 2-2 when Richard Clune scored his first goal of the year at 8:50, followed by Purcell scoring his second marker of the night at 15:38 giving Manchester a 3-2 advantage through 40 minutes.

The middle period featured a pair of fights with Hans Benson and Kevin Westgarth dropping the gloves followed by J.F. Jacques and Brian Boyle going toe-to-toe to conclude the frame.

Manchester scored two quick goals in the third period when Matt Moulson and Vladimir Dravecky tallied within the first 2:07 of the final period building a 5-2 Monarchs' lead.

Wednesday night was supposed to be the debut of new head coach Rob Daum. Due to some flight delays, Daum wasn't in Manchester and the team was coached by assistants Gerry Fleming and David Bell.
