Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today they will be taking their practices on the road and into the community this season as part of their youth hockey initiative.
The team will hold select practices to be determined at various local youth hockey rinks, including the Milford Ice Pavilion, Wonderland of Ice and Northford Ice Pavilion, with The Rinks at Shelton still serving as the official practice facility of the Sound Tigers.
"This is a great opportunity for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to branch out into the community," said team president Howard Saffan. "We want people to identify with us at a grassroots level and understand our commitment to the local hockey community."
This is the first season in which the Sound Tigers have hosted various youth hockey organizations at Webster Bank Arena. The Sound Tigers' new youth hockey initiative includes on-ice clinics for various youth hockey organizations with Sound Tigers players and coaches, as well as the opportunity for children to play their games on the same ice as the players they look up to.
"We want youth hockey organizations to feel like they are an extension of the Sound Tigers," said Alayne Murphy, Sound Tigers Youth Hockey Coordinator. "As a parent of former youth hockey players, I know what it means to these kids to play on the same ice as future NHL stars."
The Sound Tigers hit the road this weekend for two games in St. John's, Newfoundland against the IceCaps before returning to Webster Bank Arena on Oct. 28 and 29 for 7 p.m. contests against Worcester and Providence.
