Charlotte Checkers News Release
RALEIGH, NC - Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled left wing Brett Sutter from Charlotte of the American Hockey League (AHL) on an emergency basis. Hurricanes forward Zac Dalpe suffered a lower body injury during Friday night's game in Buffalo, and is week-to-week.
Sutter, 24, has skated in four games for the Checkers this season, and has not registered a point. The Viking, Alb., native was named Charlotte's captain prior to the season, and was the Checkers' leading scorer during last spring's Calder Cup Playoffs with 14 points (4g, 10a) in 16 games, helping the Checkers reach the conference finals.
Drafted by Calgary in the sixth round (179th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Sutter (6'0", 200 lbs.) has totaled one goal, one assist (2 points) and 12 penalty minutes in 19 career NHL games with Calgary and Carolina. In 276 career regular-season AHL games with Quad City, Abbotsford and Charlotte, he has notched 80 points (32g, 48a) and 272 penalty minutes. Prior to turning professional, Sutter played four seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with Kootenay and Red Deer, tallying 138 points (58g, 80a) and 274 penalty minutes. He is the older cousin of Hurricanes alternate captain Brandon Sutter.
