Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned forward Ben Smith to the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs.

Smith is no stranger to Rockford, skating in 63 games for the IceHogs during the 2010-11 season. The right winger ranked second on Rockford with 19 goals and totaled 31 points (19g-12a) during his first professional season. For his efforts, Smith was named the IceHogs Rookie of the Year.

A native of Avon, Connecticut, Smith made his National Hockey League debut with Chicago last season, collecting one goal in six regular-season contests before notching three goals in seven Stanley Cup Playoff tilts. Smith, 23, has not appeared in any games with the Blackhawks this season.

Next Home Game: Saturday, Oct. 22 vs. Chicago Wolves. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs welcome the Chicago Wolves to the BMO Harris Bank Center for the second of 12 meetings.
