Abbotsford Heat News Release

Abbotsford, BC - Don't miss the opportunity to see one of the best young defenders in the hockey world, and a BC product this weekend at the AESC as the Milwaukee Admirals face the Heat for a pair of games.

How 20-year-old defender Ryan Ellis has become a household name in Canada at such a young age is an awfully impressive feat. Despite standing just 5'10" and weighing 179 pounds, Ellis has towered over the competition for years. He's represented Canada brilliantly in six international tournaments over his young career winning gold medals at the Under-17, Under-18, Ivan Hlinka and World Junior Championships; he's also picked up a pair of silver medals in the last two World Junior Championships with Team Canada.

Domestically, Ellis has been equally dominant, as he was a member of the back-to-back Memorial Cup winning Windsor Spitfires of the OHL in 2009 & 2010. Ellis was a teammate of current Heat forward Greg Nemisz, and Taylor Hall of the Edmonton Oilers, among other high profile players that had Windsor the talk of the Junior world for quite some time. Ellis was named the CHL defenseman and player of the year last season after posting 101 points in just 58 games - staggering totals.

Also arriving in Abbotsford this weekend is Scott Ford, a Fort St. John product who played junior hockey in Merritt, BC and four years of NCAA hockey at Brown University. Ford has suited up in over 300 AHL games and is making his only trip of the season back to British Columbia.

The Heat and the Admirals have emerged from the opening weekends of the season as two of the best teams in this young AHL campaign. The Admirals are a perfect 3-0-0-0 with two wins collected over the Chicago Wolves (Vancouver's AHL affiliate) a victory to spoil the Peoria Rivermen's home opener. Meanwhile the Heat are 3-1-0-0 and have only allowed seven goals in four games.

Don't miss the opportunity to see one of hockey's rising stars and another BC export returning home to play in Abbotsford. The Admirals and the Heat play Friday and Saturday night at 7PM with positioning at the top of the AHL's Western Conference on the line.

Friday night is the season's second Loonie Toonie Dog 'n Brew night, affording fans the opportunity to enjoy $1 hotdogs and $2 Sleeman draught beer.
