
Columbus Blue Jackets Assign Forward Matt Calvert to AHL's Springfield Falcons

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned forward Matt Calvert to the Springfield Falcons, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced today.
Calvert, 21, has recorded one assists, two penalty minutes and is +1 in five games with the Blue Jackets this season. He made his NHL debut last season on January 7 at Anaheim and tallied 11-9-20, 12 penalty minutes and was +3 in 42 games with Columbus. He began the season in Springfield and collected 13-12-25 and 12 penalty minutes in 38 games.
The Brandon, Manitoba native was the Blue Jackets' fifth pick, 127th overall, in the 2008 Entry Draft. He collected 47-52-99, 70 penalty minutes and was +47 in 68 games for the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings in 2009-10. He was selected to the WHL Eastern Conference Second All-Star Team. He added 9-7-16 and 15 penalty minutes in 15 playoff games to help Brandon reach the Memorial Cup Final and was named to the Memorial Cup All-Star Team. He notched 99-131-230, 181 penalty minutes and had a cumulative plus/minus rating of +83 in 198 career games with Brandon, including 10-10-20, 24 penalty minutes and was +13 in 18 career playoff games.
