Sound Tigers Face Wolf Pack, Penguins this Weekend

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (2-4-0-0), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, face a pair of Atlantic Division rivals this weekend as the club battles the Hartford Wolf Pack (3-3-0-1) tonight, and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (4-2-0-0) on Saturday. The Sound Tigers are coming off a 6-3 victory against the Wolf Pack just six days ago at Webster Bank Arena. Michael Dal Colle, Tanner Fritz and Mitch Vande Sompel each scored once and added an assist, while Scott Eansor continued his hot start with his team-leading seventh goal of the year, and second on the power play. Between the pipes, Kristers Gudlevskis made 22 saves on 25 shots and helped Bridgeport snap a three-game losing streak.

GROWL-O-WEEN

Halloween comes early as the first 2,000 fans at Saturday's home game will receive a Sound Tigers trick-or-treat bag at the door, which can be used to collect goodies on the concourse throughout the game. Tonight's 7:15 p.m. game marks the second of 10 meetings between the Sound Tigers and Wolf Pack this season, and the first of five matchups at the XL Center. Bridgeport currently leads the series 1-0-0-0 after going 6-2-0-0 against Hartford last season, including a 3-1-0-0 mark at the XL Center.

VIEW FROM HARTFORD

Led by first-year head coach Keith McCambridge, the Wolf Pack have dropped three straight games for the first time this season (0-2-0-1) after falling to Bridgeport on Sunday. Adam Tambellini recorded his team-leading fourth goal in seven games this season, while Brandon Crawley and Vince Pedrie also scored in the 6-3 setback. Cole Schneider, Scott Kosmachuk and former Sound Tiger Joe Whitney are all tied for the team lead with six points early on and goaltender Chris Nell has all three wins between the pipes. The Wolf Pack also have a new look this evening with the additions of forward Adam Cracknell (loaned from the New York Rangers on Wednesday), defenseman Tony DeAngelo (loaned from Rangers on Tuesday) and the arrival of defenseman Ryan Sproul, who the Rangers traded for from the Detroit Red Wings last weekend.

TIGERS VS. PENGUINS

Saturday's game will mark the first of six meetings between the Sound Tigers and Penguins this season, and the first of three matchups at Webster Bank Arena. The Sound Tigers went 1-5-0-0 against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2016-17 and 1-2-0-0 in those games at home.

VIEW FROM WILKES-BARRE

The Penguins enter the weekend with a three-game win streak following a come-from-behind shootout win against the Wolf Pack last Saturday. After falling behind 2-0 midway through the first period, both Gage Quinney and Jarrett Burton found the back of the net, and Jean-Sebastian Dea scored the only goal in a three-round shootout for the Penguins. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is led by former second round pick (Pittsburgh, #46 in 2015) Daniel Sprong with 10 points and a league-leading seven goals (tied with Scott Eansor) through six games. Quinney also has three goals and five points in just three appearances. Between the pipes, Casey DeSmith went 3-0-0 with a 0.98 goals-against-average and .965 save percentage in three games, but was recalled by Pittsburgh on Monday. The Penguins host the Hershey Bears at home tonight before traveling to Connecticut to wrap up their weekend on Saturday.

WHITE-HOT START

Scott Eansor has already become a household name among Sound Tigers fans, and the rest of the AHL is beginning to take notice as well. The rookie forward has seven goals in his first six pro games, which is tied for the league lead with Sprong and Danick Martel (Lehigh Valley). In addition, Eansor has scored at least one goal in five of the Bridgeport's six games and leads the team in points (seven) and power-play goals (two). He is also second on the team in shots (18).

GOING STREAKING

Veteran winger Steve Bernier scored twice last weekend and is now on a team-best five game point streak (four goals, one assist), dating back to Oct. 13 against the Charlotte Checkers. The 32-year-old is second on the team in goals, third in shots (18) and tied for third in points after earning 26 points (16 goals, 10 assists) in 33 games prior to injury last season.

OFFENSIVE UPSIDE

The Sound Tigers received two forwards from the New York Islanders this week: Alan Quine, who was loaned on conditioning Thursday morning, and Josh Ho-Sang, who was reassigned Wednesday. Ho-Sang notched four assists in six games with the Islanders this season after recording 36 points (10g, 26a) in 50 games with the Sound Tigers last year. He also earned 15 points (5g, 10a) in 12 games last February en route to winning AHL Rookie of the Month honors. Quine has been out since September with an upper-body injury after posting 18 points (5g, 13a) in 61 games with the Islanders last season. He returns to Bridgeport for the first time since the 2015-16 campaign and is currently tied for seventh on the team's all-time points list (136) and ninth on the all-time goals list (50).

QUICK HITS

Quine is five games away from his 200th AHL appearance... Christopher Gibson is ninth on the Sound Tigers all-time games played list for goaltenders (52), two behind Steve Valiquette (2001-03)... Tanner Fritz is on a three-game point streak and leads the team in assists (five) and multi-point games (three).
