MONSTERS OUTLASTED BY REIGN

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, were defeated by the Ontario Reign on Saturday at The Q by a final score of 2-1. With the loss, the Monsters fell to 3-3-1-0 overall this season and with a .500 points percentage, currently sit alone in fourth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.

The Reign grabbed a 2-0 first period lead on Saturday thanks to back-to-back power-play goals from Sean Walker at 5:30 and Michael Mersch at 6:37, respectively. In the middle frame, the Monsters cut the Reign lead in half with a Tyler Motte power-play goal at 7:27 that came courtesy of assists from Dean Kukan and Miles Koules, but after a scoreless third period, Ontario emerged victorious by a 2-1 final score.

Cleveland goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks fell to 0-2-1 in net for the Monsters this year despite stopping 24 of the 26 shots he faced while Ontario's Jack Campbell improved to 1-3-0 between the pipes for the Reign by virtue of a 34-save performance.
