Czarnik Leads P-Bruins to 4-1 Win

Binghamton, N.Y. - The Providence Bruins defeated the Binghamton Devils Friday night 4-1 in their first matchup against the newly relocated franchise. The P-Bruins got two power play goals from Austin Czarnik as well as goals from Josh Hennessy and Anton Blidh while Zane McIntyre made the start in goal.
The opening period featured several big hits and physical play, including fights from Jeremy Lauzon and Chris Breen, but Providence was able to come out of it with a two-goal lead. At 11:49, Hennessy opened the scoring with a perfect tip in front of the net. Chris Porter sent the puck out to Lauzon at the point and his shot was deflected in for Hennessy's first goal of the season. Taking advantage of a late power play, Providence doubled their lead at 18:34 thanks to Czarnik. Taking a feed from Ryan Fitzgerald, Czarnik beat Mackenzie Blackwood from the right circle for his third goal of the year as the P-Bruins took a 2-0 lead into the intermission.
The physicality toned down in the second, but Czarnik's offense did not. At 12:43 while on the power play, Tommy Cross sent a pass to Czarnik at nearly the exact spot on the ice he scored earlier. This time he went short-side on Blackwood for his second goal of the night and fourth of the season to give Providence a 3-0 lead. Binghamton scored on a late power play of their own as Jacob MacDonald blasted a one-timer home, but Providence held a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.
The P-Bruins controlled the action in the third period and put the final nail in the coffin off a fortunate bounce off the boards. From the top of the left circle, Emil Johansson sent a slap-shot that went wide to the right of the net. The puck caromed right to Blidh in front of the net, and his third goal of the season at 5:25 gave Providence the 4-1 win.
McIntyre stopped 13 of 14 shots while Blackwood stopped 29 of 33. Providence was 2-6 on the power play and 4-5 on the penalty kill. The P-Bruins will conclude their brief two-game road trip tomorrow night in Hershey when they take on the Bears at 7pm..
