Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, were defeated at home by the Providence Bruins 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night. However, the Sound Tigers saw their magic number to clinch a berth in the Calder Cup Playoffs reduced to five by virtue of the standings point they earned along with the two lost by the Binghamton Senators, who were beaten 3-1 at home by the Norfolk Admirals Saturday.

The Sound Tigers opened the scoring when Ryan O'Marra deflected his third career goal in only his second professional game with 2:18 left in the first period off feeds from Cole Jarrett and Tomi Pettiten to make the score 1-0.

Providence evened the score at 1-1 at 8:11 of the second frame when Tyler Redenbach notched his 20th goal of the year with help from David Lundbohm and Jonathan Sigalet moments after their power play expired.

The Sound Tigers roared right back 1:11 later to take the 2-1 lead when Peter Tsimikalis tallied his first professional goal off a long rebound with Evgeny Tunik and Pettiten picking up the assists.

The Bruins knotted the game at 2-2 with 7:23 left in the second period when Pascal Pelletier scored his 18th goal of the year off assists from Ben Walter and Ben Guite.

After great efforts from the Sound Tigers to keep the puck in the attacking zone, Masi Marjamaki was finally able to cash in for his 15th goal of the season with 2:50 left to play in the second period to once again recapture the lead, this time at 3-2, with assists coming from Joe Tallari and Matt Koalska.

Providence once again answered right back when Jeremy Reich tied the game at 3-3 on his eighth marker of the season 1:36 later off an assist from Guite.

After combining for six goals through two periods, including five in the middle frame, the teams skated through a scoreless third period but decided things quickly in overtime as Sigalet poked home the rebound of a Nate Thompson shot for his ninth goal of the season 46 seconds into the extra session for the 4-3 P-Bruins win. Guite collected his third helper of the game on the winning play.

Sigalet was the first star of the game, Pettinen the second and Guite the third. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 3 on the power play while the Bruins were 0 for 5 and had a 37-21 shots on goal advantage. Sound Tigers goaltender Wade Dubielewicz stopped 33 shots while his counterpart Brian Eklund made 18 saves.

Prior to the game, the Sound Tigers recalled center Mark Lee from the ECHL's Trenton Titans and signed defenseman / forward Sergei Durdin to a professional tryout contract after forwards Rob Collins and Steve Regier were summoned to Long Island for the Islanders' Sunday home game versus the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Sound Tigers will host Binghamton tomorrow, Sunday, April 2nd, at 4:05 p.m. and visit the Senators this coming Friday, April 7th at 7:05 p.m.
