Bulldogs' Overtime Penalty Shot Bites Monarchs

HAMILTON, ON - Right wing Duncan Milroy's penalty shot gave the Hamilton Bulldogs a 2-1 overtime victory over the Manchester Monarchs in front of 4,910 fans at the Copps Coliseum on Saturday night.

Manchester (40-27-3-4, 87 points) is in third place in the Atlantic Division. Hamilton (31-39-0-4, 66 points) sits in sixth place in the North Division.

On the power play, the Monarchs cycled the puck along the points of the Bulldogs blueline. Right wing Tim Jackman sent the puck to defenseman Marty Wilford who forwarded it on to defenseman Brad Fast at the center point. Fast wound up and fired a blast past Hamilton's goaltender Yann Danis at 18:44 of the first period.

The Bulldogs evened the game at 1-1 with a power play goal of their own at 12:42 of the middle frame. Left wing Jean-Francois Jacques gave the puck to center Corey Locke behind the net. Locke then sent a pass through the crease to the stick of Francois for the shot into the open net. Defenseman Andre Benoit also assisted on the tying goal.

After being tripped up in neutral ice, skating down on a breakaway and shooting wide, Milroy was awarded a penalty shot at 2:32 of overtime. Milroy beat Monarchs goaltender Adam Hauser to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 overtime victory.

Hauser (21-15-2) took the overtime loss with 29 saves. Danis (15-16-3) earned the victory stopping 28 shots.

Manchester went 1-for-9 on the power play. Hamilton was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.

Returning home, the Monarchs will host the Springfield Falcons at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday, April 5 at 7:05 p.m.
