Munro Leads Admirals Past B-Sens
April 1, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release
Adam Munro made 34 saves, and Scott Bertoli scored his first career AHL goal, as the Admirals defeated the Senators 3-1 on Saturday night in Binghamton.
Bertoli's goal put Norfolk in front 8:58 into the opening period. Shawn Thornton got the puck to Bertoli as he skated up the wall to the left of Binghamton goaltender Kelly Guard. One night after picking up his first AHL assist, Bertoli sent a sharp wrist shot from the top of the right circle that beat Guard stick-side for his first career AHL goal. Denis Hamel's 50th goal of the season at 13:37 evened the score at one goal apiece. The teams headed to the locker room tied at 1-1.
Norfolk resumed the lead 3:17 into the second stanza. Carl Corazzini sent a high slap shot from the left point that Quintin Laing deflected downward through the five-hole of Guard. An Admirals' man advantage goal with 5:02 left in the period gave them a two-goal advantage. Nathan Barrett sent a pass from behind the goal line to the left of Guard to Matt Keith in the slot between the hashmarks. Keith one-timed it past the Binghamton backstop at 14:58. Norfolk led 3-1 after forty minutes.
Adam Munro continued his strong play between the pipes, stopping all 28 shots he saw in the final two periods to cement a 3-1 Admirals' win. Munro made 34 of 35 shots in the game and earned the victory. Kelly Guard picked up the loss making 30 saves on 33 shots.
Norfolk was 1-4 with the man advantage. Binghamton was 0-3.
