SOUND TIGERS WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT

BRUNO GERVAIS

Defense - Shoots: Right

Height: 6'1'' Weight: 197 lbs

Born: October 3, 1984 in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec

Selected 6th, 182nd overall, by the NY Islanders in the 2003 NHL draft

How did you learn to speak English so well? I went to an all-English high school in 12th grade to get better at it, which is ironic because there were two schools in town, one English and one French, that had a big rivalry, and here I was a French kid at the English school.

How did you become a defenseman as opposed to a forward?

When I was a kid everyone wanted to jump up in the play and score, so I just stayed behind and played 'D'. It's also in my nature because I like to dive around and block shots.

What is the best part about playing in the metro New York area and what is the worst?

I love being so close to the beach and the water. It was a long drive to the beach where I grew up, so it's nice to be so close here, and the worst part is easy...the traffic!

The Sound Tigers played on the past two Thanksgivings and were on the road for the holiday this season, but the holiday's different in Canada isn't it?

It's a month or so earlier in Canada and isn't as big of a deal. It's even less of a holiday in Quebec, so it wasn't too bad being on the road.

What was it like to be on TV's "The Apprentice"?

I had a great time! We showed up, had a nice meal and then were there for about an hour or two. The guys got on me after the show aired; I also didn't have a girlfriend at the time it was shot, so my girlfriend also got on me when it aired because the one girl on the show got hurt and I was the one who helped her off the ice.
