DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars extended their winning streak on Tuesday night with a 3-2 victory over the visiting Grand Rapids Griffins.

The Stars registered the first goal of the game for the sixth time this season when Toby Petersen redirected Mario Scalzo's shot from the blueline past Grand Rapids' goalie Joey MacDonald. Petersen's power-play goal extended the Stars streak to five consecutive games with a power-play tally.

The Stars gave up a two-goal lead in the second period when Bryan Helmer and Don MacLean scored for the Griffins. However, the game-winning heroics belonged to rookie Janos Vas. Vas registered his first American Hockey League goal at 2:14 of the third period when he unleashed a slapshot from the left faceoff circle that beat MacDonald glove-side-high.

Stars goaltender Mike Smith made 23 saves en-route to his sixth win of the season.

Attendance was 3,940.

Power-play chances: IOWA: 1 for 8; GR: 1 for 9
