Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Winnipeg, MB - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated 7-2 by the Manitoba Moose on Tuesday night at the MTS Centre. The loss dropped the Bulldogs record to 8-14-0-1.
The first period ended with the score tied at 1-1, as the teams traded power-play goals near the midway point of the period. The Moose scored the first goal of the game at 7:43 when Kevin Bieksa's point-shot was tipped in front of Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis by Alexandre Burrows.
Hamilton answered just 56 seconds later when Jean-Francois Jacques, who was positioned in front of Manitoba netminder Wade Flaherty, buried Corey Locke's centering pass.
The Moose scored four unanswered goals in the middle frame, including three on the power play, to take a 5-1 lead. Defenseman Tomas Mojzis gave the Moose a 2-1 lead just 1:33 into the second period when he fired a wrist shot from inside the Bulldogs blueline that beat Danis. The Moose then potted three straight power-play goals, as former Bulldog Sven Butenschon (at 7:35), Burrows, with his second of the game (12:47), and ex-Dog Josh Green (17:41) all found the net for Manitoba with the man-advantage.
Jeff DesLauriers replaced Danis in the Bulldogs net to start the third period.
Hamilton scored its second goal of the game to make the score 5-2 just 11 seconds into the third period when Duncan Milroy banged in a loose puck in the Moose crease after Flaherty stopped Jacques initial shot. Mike Brown restored Manitoba's four goal lead when he broke in alone at 9:26 with the Moose shorthanded and beat DesLauriers as the puck bounced off his pad and up into the net. Moose forward Jimmy Roy rounded out the scoring when he tipped Brett Skinner's point-shot past DesLauriers at 12:59.
The seven goals give up by Hamilton are the most the team has allowed in a game this season. Also, the four goals scored by the Moose in the second period are the most allowed by Hamilton in a period this season. The five-goal difference marks the largest margin of defeat the Bulldogs have suffered this season.
Bulldogs netminder Danis made 13 saves and suffered the loss, while DesLauriers blocked 8 of 10 shots he faced in relief. Moose goaltender Flaherty stopped 16 shots to earn the victory.
Hamilton was 1 with 6 the man advantage while Manitoba was 4 for 10.
The Bulldogs and Moose face each other again tomorrow night, Wednesday, November 30, at the MTS Centre. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs next home game will take place on Friday, December 2, when the Toronto Maple Leafs AHL Affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, visit Copps Coliseum for the third time this season. Both teams will be wearing specialty jerseys honouring the rivalry between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Toronto Argonauts. Tiger-Cat and Argonaut players and alumni will be in attendance. Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
