Peoria, IL (November 29, 2005) - St. Louis Blues Senior Vice-president and General Manager Larry Pleau today announced the club has claimed forward Simon Gamache (see-MOHN ga-MOHSH) on waivers from the Nashville Predators. In addition, the Blues have assigned defenseman Jeff Woywitka (WOI-wiht-ka) to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.
Gamache, 24, has played in 11 National Hockey League (NHL) games this season with the Nashville Predators. He has also skated in five games with the Predators' AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals, registering four points (one goal, three assists) along with two penalty minutes. The 5-10, 186-pound forward finished fifth in the AHL in scoring in 2004-05 while playing with Milwaukee after he registered 86 points (29 goals, 57 assists) in 80 games played. For his efforts, Gamache was named a First-team AHL All-Star.
In 2000-01, Gamache led the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with 184 points (74 goals, 110 assists) and set a Canadian Hockey League record when he recorded 57 playoff points (22 goals, 35 assists) in 21 games played. He was also named the 2001 CHL Player of the Year. A native of Thetford Mines, Quebec, Gamache was originally Atlanta's ninth-round selection, 290th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
Woywitka, 22, has appeared in 10 games with the Blues so far this season, having registered 14 minutes in penalties and nine shots on goal. In six games with the Rivermen, the 6-2, 209-pound defenseman has one assist, a plus-three rating, and 17 penalty minutes.
