Solid Pitching Carries Crushers Past Freedom
July 24, 2009 - Frontier League (FL)
Florence Y'alls News Release
AVON, OH - Brent Lysander held the Florence Freedom to just two hits and two runs through eight innings as the Lake Erie Crushers took game two of the series 5-2 Friday night at All Pro Freight Stadium.
Ryan Basham had the only two Freedom hits against the right-hander. Basham made his hits count by driving in a run with a single in the third inning and homering in the sixth. It was the eighth of the season for the all-star MVP as he sits one shy of Kyle Geswein's all-time Freedom career mark of 37 homers.
But for the second straight night on the hill, the Crushers got on the board early. Lake Erie put up three runs before Freedom starter Rob Neigebauer could settle in. Eddie Tisdale's two-out, two-run double made it 3-0 Crushers through one.
Gordon Gronkowski's RBI single in the third inning was followed by Neigebauer walking Tim Binkoski, causing Toby Rumfield going to his bullpen early for the second straight night.
Neigebauer (0-4) went just two innings as the Freedom starters have combined to last 3 1/3 innings against the Crushers in this series.
Andy Clark, Demetrius Banks and John Tesseyman were solid out of the pen, allowing just one run over six innings of work. But the Freedom's bullpen has had to carry a heavy load, tossing 12 2/3 innings over the past two days.
Ronnie Morales picked up his first save of the season despite bringing the tying run up to the plate in the ninth. Tim Grogan grounded out to second to seal the Freedom's fate. Lysander struck out three over eight innings as he improved to 5-1.
Florence (27-28) tries to avoid the sweep Saturday night at Lake Erie by sending Jonathan Miller to the hill. Miller (2-1, 2.95 ERA) tossed a complete game shutout his last time out against the Evansville Otters. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m., fans can catch the game on Classic Country 106.7 FM WNKR or 1067WNKR.com.
