Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, (27-29) presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, were defeated by the Traverse City Beach Bums 9-7 despite All-Star Grant Psomas's impressive night in the second game of the series at Consol Energy Park.
The Wild Things wasted no time Friday night, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. After a leadoff double by Michael Parker extended his hitting streak to 19 games, Phil Laurent drove him in with an RBI single to right field. Psomas added to the lead in the second with a solo homer (18) over the wall pushing the margin to 2-0.
After the Beach Bums gained ground with a run in the top half of the third, the Wild Things pushed their lead to a 5-1 lead following a solo shot by Ernie Banks (13) and a two-run bomb by Psomas, his second of the game and 19th of the season.
The Beach Bums weren't going away in the seventh inning after a homerun by catcher Robby Alcombrack put the score at 5-3. After consecutive hits by Brad Miller, Andrew Stafford and John Alonso put the score at 5-4, the Beach Bums continued their rally by going ahead 6-5 after a two-run single by Mike Victor. The Beach Bums added a couple of insurance runs to give them an 8-5 lead. A late inning push by the Wild Things wasn't enough as they fell 8-7.
Washington starter Jason Neitz gave up four earned runs receiving a no decision. Neitz struckout three over six and one third innings, while walking two on nine hits. Reliever Justin Edwards took the loss putting his record at 2-3 for the season.
Despite the loss, the Wild Things have won 11 of their last 14 games and inch closer to the .500 win loss mark on the season. The Wild Things look to win the series as they take on the Beach Bums Saturday night in the deciding game. Tune into WJPA 95.3 FM as the broadcast begins at 6:55 with the first pitch coming at 7:05.
