Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Avon, OH - The Lake Erie Crushers used a superb outing from starter Brent Lysander to knock off the Florence Freedom by the final of 5-2 on Friday night at All Pro Freight Stadium.
Lysander was in complete control all evening as he allowed two runs on just two hits in eight innings, while striking out three and not walking a batter. "This was definitely my best outing of the season," Lysander said afterwards. "The physical and mental preparation was key for me this week and the results showed out there." Lysander improved to 5-1 on the season with the victory.
Meanwhile the Crushers offense went to work early against Florence starter Rob Neigebauer as they scored three times in the first inning. Tim Binkoski hit a sacrifice fly to right and then Eddie Tisdale added a two-out, two-run double.
The Crushers added a single run in the third inning on an RBI single by Gordon Gronkowski that scored Andrew Davis. Lake Erie would also tack on a run in the fifth on a solo homer to right by Binkoski.
The only hits Lysander allowed came off the bat of Florence DH Ryan Basham. Basham hit an RBI single in the third to put the Freedom on the board. Basham added a solo homer to right-center field in the sixth. Lysander retired the last eight men he faced after the Basham home run and would then give way to lefty Ronnie Morales in the ninth. Morales allowed a pair of hits but got three outs for his first save as a member of the Crushers.
The Crushers improve to 31-24 with the win and will wrap up their series with the Freedom on Saturday night at 7:05 P.M. Tommy Vassella will get the start for Lake Erie against Florence's Jonathan Miller.
