
Kalamazoo Edge Out Sliders in Nail-Bitter

Kalamazoo Kings snuck out game two of the series 3-2 against the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti. The Sliders had the tying run in scoring position with no outs in the ninth, but couldn't plate him to tie it up.
John Brownell was the hero for Kalamazoo as he threw a complete game win, only allowing two earned runs, while striking out seven. Kyle Kearcher threw a solid six innings allowing three runs but suffered the loss.
` Earl Oakes and P.J. Zocchi pitched three scoreless innings in relief.
Zack Pace came around to score in the top of the first to give the Sliders a 1-0 lead. He hit a single, stole second base, and scored on a Jimmy Baker sacrifice fly. Baker's sac fly was his team leading 43 RBI of the season.
Kalamazoo scored in the sixth and seventh innings from two solo homers. Scott Billak hit one in the sixth, followed by Josh Short in the seventh. Amos Ramon also scored in the seventh when he hit a double and later scored making it 3-1 Kings.
Ben Barrone hit a leadoff double in the eighth and came around to score cutting the Kings lead to 3-2.
In the ninth, Jimmy Baker walked to start the inning, and Robbie Knapp reached first on a bunt. With runners at first and second Same DeLuca bunted but Kalamazoo made the play at third. With one out Joash Brodin belted a ball down the right field line, but Billak made a running catch. Billak threw out pinch runner Garrett Maines at second to complete the double play to end the game.
Saturday's rubber match will begin at 6:05 p.m. at EMU's Oestrike Stadium. Former Eastern Michigan pitcher Jeff Fischer (3-1, 4.09) will make the start for Midwest.
