Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Greenville, SC - Greenville scored twice in the first period and added three goals in the second as they defeated the Orlando Solar Bears 5-2 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Saturday night. The loss ended a seven game road winning streak for the Solar Bears.
Less than five minutes into the first period, Greenville grabbed a 1-0 lead over Orlando. C Bretton Cameron knocked down a pass through neutral ice, skated the puck up the left wing, and snapped a shot into the top right corner of the net. The Road Warriors doubled their advantage less than two minutes later, at 5:32, when D Samuel Noreau blasted a shot from the blue line and LW Sean Berkstresser deflected the shot past G Garret Sparks for the power play goal. Greenville took the 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
The second period saw Greenville strike for three more goals. 5:52 into the second, RW Josh Nicholls picked off a clearing pass, faked a slap shot, and then slipped the puck into the net. The lead expanded to 4-0 in favor of Greenville at 10:15 when RW Michael St. Croix deflected the puck high up in the air, but it dropped under the crossbar and over the line. The Road Warriors completed their scoring in the third when C Andrew Rowe found a rebound off a shot from LW Andrew Yogan to polish off a 2-on-1 rush and give Greenville a 5-0 lead. With just 13.3 seconds to go in the second, F Andrew Johnston put the Solar Bears on the board when he came up the right wing, made one quick move, and then snapped the puck off the left goalpost and into the net for his fourth goal of the year.
F Jacob Cepis pulled the Solar Bears to within three at 5:52 of the third, when he took a pass at the top of the slot and placed a slap shot past G Jeff Malcolm. Despite being credited for 19 shots on goal in the third, it was the only puck the Solar Bears could put past Malcolm as the Road Warriors took the eventual 5-2 win over Orlando.
