TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (35-17-2-3) conclude their seven-game road trip with the final contest of a three-game series against the Colorado Eagles (27-22-5-5). On Friday night, the Reign suffered their first regulation loss against the Mountain Division team with a final score of 3-2. This was the first game the Reign failed to score at least three goals against Colorado. On Friday these two teams played a very physical game and after beginning this inter-conference series, there is sure to be more physicality tonight.
JUSSI & COUTURE:
Reign goaltender Jussi Olkinuora has had a bit of a tough time finding his groove between the pipes for Ontario through his first few games. As of late, he has made some solid saves with most of the goals-against coming off of a high-speed rebound or a tough screen. Olkinuora has started in 21 of the last 22 games; with 11 straight starts before Troy Redmann got in net, and he is currently on 10 straight starts. On Friday, Couture was a target for a huge hit upending him into the Colorado Eagles bench. The Captain posted a total of 12 penalty minutes during the game with two fights and a cross-checking minor.
KILLING THE PIMS:
Ontario ended their ugly streak of four games with short-handed goals-against on Friday and for the fourth time this season, played their third straight game without allowing a power-play goal. The Reign scored on the power-play, something they have also done for the past three straight games.
WRAPPING UP THE ROADTRIP:
The Reign are going into tonight's game with a 2-4-0-0 record on the roadtrip so far. Ontario has managed to stay the league-leader on the road with an overall road record of 20-9-0-2 good for 42 points. The Cincinnati Cyclones of the Eastern Conference sit at 40 points with a 19-7-0-2 record but there aren't any Western Conference teams that are close enough to threaten this Reign record.
