Solar Bears Fall 6-0 to Florida

Estero, FL - Orlando surrendered two goals in each period as they fell 6-0 to the Florida Everblades at the Germain Arena on Saturday night.

Florida jumped out to an early lead in the contest, as F Matthew Pistilli took the puck from the bottom of the left circle, cut into the slot, and snapped a shot inside the right goal post at 3:19 of the frame. F Rocco Carzo increased the Everblades lead to 2-0 later in the frame, when he blasted a rebound into the back of the net with 4:53 left to play. Tempers exploded at the end of the period, as a line brawl nearly erupted and Florida F Brandon MacLean and Solar Bears F David Rutherford were both issued five minute majors for fighting. The teams had racked up a total of 50 combined penalty minutes by the end of the frame.

The Everblades tacked on two more goals in the second period, both on the power play. F Mathieu Roy knocked home a rebound on the doorstep at 7:22 and D Joe Stejskal picked up his first goal of the season on a wrister from the blue line at 16:22 to give the Florida a 4-0 lead heading into the final frame.

Florida picked up their fifth goal of the game when F Mike Merrifield finished off a 3-on-2 with a shot into the top corner of the net, and Roy added his second power play goal of the game on a deflection with just 58 seconds to play for the game's final 6-2 score.
