Atlanta Gladiators News Release
DULUTH, Ga. - Sean Berkstresser scored twice, and Connor Knapp made 31 saves to lead the Greenville Road Warriors over the Gwinnett Gladiators Saturday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Peter Delmas made 33 saves in a losing cause for the Gladiators (5-12-0-0), while Knapp denied Gwinnett time and time again for the Road Warrior's (7-7-1-1) first shutout of the season. Both teams went 0-for-6 on the man advantage.
Jordie Johnston appeared to put Greenville ahead late in the first period, but the officials ruled that the puck had been kicked in and the game remained scoreless through 20 minutes.
Greenville exploded offensively in the second. Brandon Hynes opened the scoring at 2:28 of the middle period, with Sean Berkstresser burying his first of the season at 5:03. Berkstresser struck again at 9:35 to extend the Greenville lead to 3-0.
That was all the offense the Road Warriors would need, as the Gladiators were unable to solve Knapp and fell by a 3-0 final.
Gwinnett is next in action Thanksgiving night at 6:05 p.m. against the Evansville IceMen at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. It will be the first opponent outside the South Division that the Gladiators have faced this season.
The Gladiators are members of the ECHL, the nation's premier "AA" hockey league and are affiliated with the Phoenix Coyotes of the NHL. All home games are played at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
