Idaho Steelheads News Release
San Francisco, CA - Pat Nagle authored a brilliant, 41-save shutout Friday night and the Idaho Steelheads offense exploded for four third-period goals in a 6-0 victory over the San Francisco Bulls at the Cow Palace.
The win was the fourth in a row for Idaho (8-4-2) and extended the team's point streak to six consecutive games. The six goals marked a season-high as did the four-goal third period.
The Steelheads wasted no time getting on the board, scoring on the first trip into the offensive zone when Mitch Wahl zipped a pass from the right-wing corner to the top of the crease. Anthony Nigro steered the centering pass into the net at the 18-second mark of the period for his team-leading eighth goal of the season to give Idaho a 1-0 lead. Over the remaining 19 minutes of the first period, Nagle was the star, though, making save after save as San Francisco put 19 shots on net in the opening frame.
The Nagle show continued early in the second with a handful of brilliant saves before Idaho added to the lead on a Justin Mercier shot from the left circle at 5:22 of the second to make it 2-0 for the Steelheads.
Mercier delivered a critical insurance goal at 6:26 of the third with a short-handed break up the right-wing side. San Francisco's Tyler Beskorowany appeared to make the save, but the puck trickled through to make it 3-0.
From that point, it was all Idaho as they added three more goals over the game's final six minutes. Brock Montgomery finished a James Isaacs centering feed at 14:19 of the third on the power play to make it 4-0, Taylor Vause connected with William Rapuzzi on a two-on-one rush at 17:35 and Gaelan Patterson back-handed home a rebound at 19:19 of the third to turn what had been a very tight game into a rout.
Wahl (seven games) and Rapuzzi (six games) each extended individual point streaks while Etienne Boutet chipped in with his first multi-point game as a pro with two assists. Boutet, Isaacs, Montgomery and Mercier all finished the game with plus/minus ratings of plus-3 on the night.
Nagle was the winner, going 41-for-41. Beskorowany was the loser after surrendering six goals on 31 shots. Idaho's penalty kill was perfect on the evening, stopping all four San Francisco power plays, and the Steelheads were 1-2 on the man advantage.
The Steelheads pay a visit to Stockton to play the Thunder on Saturday and Sunday. Both games can be heard live on KTIK 1350 AM in the Treasure Valley.
Idaho returns home on Tuesday, November 26, against the Las Vegas Wranglers. Tickets are available by calling the CenturyLink Arena box office at 208-331-8497.
