Orlando Solar Bears News Release
BRAMPTON, Ontario - The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, have announced that the club has acquired the ECHL rights to defenseman Taylor Doherty, while the Marlies have reassigned defenseman Max Nicastro from the Solar Bears to the Rapid City Rush.
Doherty, 25, is in his fifth full season of professional hockey, and has suited up in 56 games with the Rush this season, recording 24 points (8g-16a) and 32 penalty minutes. The rearguard signed a Professional Try-Out Agreement with the Marlies earlier today.
In 290 career games with the Rush and the Worcester Sharks of the AHL, the blueliner has accumulated 62 points (15g-47a) and 379 penalty minutes.
Prior to turning pro, Doherty spent four seasons with the Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL, amassing 137 points (38g-99a) and 458 penalty minutes in 263 games. Doherty was originally a second round selection of the San Jose Sharks (#57 overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Nicastro, 26, has posted 14 points (7g-7a) and 27 penalty minutes in 50 games with the Solar Bears this season.
The Solar Bears continue their fourth season in the ECHL, presented by Auto Justice Attorney Michael T. Gibson, P.A., when they take on the Brampton Beast on Thursday, Mar. 10 at 7:15 p.m. at the Powerade Centre. Fans can listen to the game at iHeartSolarBears.com or watch via ECHL.TV.
