Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Stephen Perfetto's goal with just 1:38 to go in overtime gave the Alaska Aces a 3-2 win Wednesday over the Fort Wayne Komets at the Sullivan Arena.
Perfetto's heroics came after the Aces had lost a 2-0 second period lead in the third.
After a scoreless first period, Garet Hunt banged in a rebound past Komets goaltender Pat Nagle at 1:18 of the second period, his 9th goal of the season. Assists on the play to Peter Sivak and Perfetto.
Christian Finch, in his first professional game, score his first professional goal, lifting a backhander through traffic that got deflected, floating up and over Nagle into the net at 6:53. Patrick Wellar and Felix Poulin got the helpers and Finch got the puck.
The third period was punctuated by Fort Worth powerplay goals. The first came at 11:53 off the stick of Jamie Schaafsma, his 16th goal of the season, the second from Leo Thomas, his 3rd.
In the overtime period, both teams had opportunities, with the Komets outshooting the Aces 3-1...but that one Aces shot was a game-winner as Perfetto snapped a wrist shot off as he moved through the slot toward the left circle. The dart found the back of the net, and Alaska had a win.
William Wrenn and Peter Sivak, both on their second shift in the OT with Perfetto, picked up assists.
Nagle finished with 31 saves...Alaska goaltender Jacob DeSerres had 26 for the win.
The two teams will play again Friday and Saturday nights in Anchorage.
The Aces return to the Sullivan Arena ice on Friday and Saturday against Ft. Wayne.
