Beloit Sky Carp News Release
CLINTON, IA - A late push by the Snappers' offense would prove enough as they Snappers overcame the Clinton LumberKings 7 to 6 Saturday night. While the LumberKings tried to retaliate, the Snappers' bullpen held strong enough to shut down the LumberKings offense.
A wild game where Clinton would lead by 2 runs at one point swayed late in the Snappers favor as the offensive production of multiple team members sealed the victory. 8/9 batters combined for 14 hits over the 3:20 contest. Beloit wound up with 4 batters with multiple hits: Devin Foyle, Skyler Weber, Santis Sanchez, and Lester Madden.
The Snappers would come out of the gates hot by scoring a run off of a Nick Osborne double in the first inning, which would be followed up by a sac fly for Osborne as well in the 3rd to put Beloit up 2-0. The lead wouldn't last, though, as 2 2-run home runs in the bottom of the 4th would put the Snappers down by 2. Lester Madden would tack on in the 6th though, with one of his 3 RBI's on the night with a single to put the Snappers within 1.
Starting Reid Birlingmair looked to resume his recent dominance on the mound, but was held up short with a rough 4 run 4th inning. While he would ultimately get of the inning himself, he was unable to continue his streak of quality starts to 3 games. Relief Pitcher Jaimito Lebron would get the next 3 innings on the bump for the Snappers and did not allow a single run on only 3 hits to the LumberKings' bats. Lebron would ultimately receive the win after the Snappers bats supported his performance.
The Snappers' bats wouldn't stop there, though, as they would rack up 3 in the 8th inning to give them their first lead since the 4th inning. New Snappers Michael Woodworth would begin the scoring with a 2-RBI single in the 8th, which is his first RBIs of full-season ball. Lester Madden would stay hot at the plate by scoring runs on 2 singles, one in the 8th and one in the 9th to give the Snappers what would seem to be a comfortable 3 run lead.
The bottom of the 9th would get stay tricky for the Snappers, as they had just had issues with a blown save in last night's contest at home. After 2 runs would score on 3 hits, Calvin Coker would shut the door and finish the LumberKings to earn his 2nd save of the 2019 season.
