Alexander Sends Cougars to 2nd Straight Extra-Inning Win

Geneva, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars (63-47, 28-13) prevailed 2-1 in 10 innings over the Quad Cities River Bandits (66-41, 23-18) on Saturday night at Northwestern Medicine Field. Blaze Alexander's opposite field single scored Zack Shannon to end the game.

In the second inning, Alex Holderbach put the Bandits in front 1-0 on an RBI single off of Cougar starter Levi Kelly. The Cougars didn't muster a run until the seventh inning. Keshawn Lynch began a rally with a lead-off single. Brandon Leyton walked to put runners at first and second with no one out. Leyton ultimately scored with two outs on Dominic Fletcher's game-tying RBI single to left.

In the top of the tenth, Cougar reliever Kenny Hernandez induced three fly outs to center to get out of the inning unscathed. With one out in the tenth, Alexander roped a liner to right to score Shannon and walk the Cougars off for the second time in a week.

Kenny Hernandez (5-2) earned the win with five shutout innings in relief. Danny Cody (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing an unearned run in 1.1 innings on the mound.
