Peoria Chiefs News Release
Appleton, WI - The Peoria Chiefs beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for the seventh time this season as they scored five runs in a game for the eighth time in nine games in a 6-2 Saturday night victory. Wadye Ynfante went two-for-four with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored to earn the Pekin Insurance Beyond the Expected Player of the Game as the Chiefs improved to 7-4 in their last 11 games.
The Chiefs came out swinging against Wisconsin starter Logan Gillaspie. With one out in the first inning Edwin Figuera doubled off the high wall in left field, his seventh double of the season. Red-hot Brendan Donovan launched a double to left-center for his 43rd RBI of the campaign as the Chiefs took a 1-0 lead.
Ynfante led off the third inning with his first homer since May 5 and his third in a Chiefs uniform this season. The solo blast put the Chiefs up 2-0 and with two outs Donovan beat the shift with a single to left. Brady Whalen's 26th double of the season went to the 405-foot sign in right-center to score Donovan and give the Chiefs a 3-0 lead.
After Colin Schmid gave up a run in the bottom of the third, Alexis Wilson launched a solo homer just past the video board in left-center to start the fourth inning. Brandon Riley walked and Leandro Cedeno hit an automatic double that hopped over the RF wall to put two in scoring position. Ynfante singled home Riley for a 5-1 Chiefs lead, Jonatan Machado walked and Cedeno scored on a double play ball to put the Chiefs on top 6-1. Wisconsin tallied once in the ninth but the Chiefs improved to 7-5 overall against the Rattlers in 2019, 5-4 in Appleton.
