Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - The Beloit Snappers scored 5 runs in the final 5 innings, but the comeback was not enough as Beloit fell to the West Michigan Whitecaps in the series opener 8-5. Beloit placed 16 runners on base in the ballgame collecting 8 hits in the losing effort.
West Michigan would get the scoring started in the game putting up 5 unanswered runs through the first 5 innings. However, that would not kill Beloit's spirits as they would get the offense going in the bottom half with runs in four straight innings.
In the fifth, Max Schueman would lead the inning off with Skyler Weber launching a double two batters later to put runners on second and third with just one out. Moments later, Anthony Churlin would hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Schuemann and the Snappers first run of the game.
Now with the score 7 to 2 in favor of the Whitecaps in the seventh inning, Beloit would load the bases with just one out in the inning and new reliever, Yaya Chentouf walked John Jones to walk in a run and make the score 7-3 after 7 complete.
In the eighth, Cobie Vance and Santis Sanchez would lead off with singles to get some traffic on the basepaths for Beloit. Now with one out, Santis Sanchez would ground out to the shortstop to drive in Vance making the score 7-4.
After a Skyler Weber, Anthony Churlin singled knocking in another run with Foyle crossing the plate and cutting the deficit to just 2 runs. However, that would be all the scoring for Beloit tonight, as the Snappers would fail to score in the ninth falling 8-5.
Beloit will look to even out this series tomorrow when they take on the Whitecaps in Game 2 of this 3 game series. Tomorrow is Faith and Family Night presented by Thrivent Financial with a special live performance from Josh Calhoun. First Pitch is at 6:30 with gates open at 5:30.
