Tennessee Smokies News Release

KODAK, Tenn. - A two-run first inning was too much for the Tennessee Smokies to overcome as they fell to the Chattanooga Lookouts 6-4 Tuesday night at Smokies Park. With the loss the Smokies drop to 33-25 on the second-half, 76-52 overall. Chattanooga (35-22, 70-57) increased their second-half lead over Tennessee to 2.5 games with 12 games to go.

The Lookouts put up a pair of runs in the first inning on Chicago Cubs pitcher Andrew Cashner (0-1), who was making a rehab start with Tennessee on Tuesday. The hard-throwing right-hander went two-thirds of an inning allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two.

Ryan Searle took over for the Smokies and held the Lookouts scoreless through the next two innings.

Chattanooga would score a combined three runs off Searle in the fourth and fifth innings to extended their lead to 5-0.

Rebel Ridling continued to swing a hot bat and put the Smokies on the board in the bottom half, singling up the middle to bring in a pair of runs and narrow the margin to 5-2.

Ridling added his third RBI of the night in the seventh, grounding out to score Junior Lake and make it 5-3.

Chattanooga tacked on a run in the top of the eighth, and the Smokies answered with a Ty Wright pinch-hit RBI single to put the score at 6-4 in the bottom half.

Shawn Tolleson (S, 11) retired the side in order in the ninth, as the Smokies were unable to mount a late rally. Chris Withrow (5-6) picked up the win for the Lookouts, allowing two runs on five hits in five innings of work.

The Smokies will look to even the five-game series with the Lookouts Wednesday night at 7:15 at Smokies Park. Will Savage (12-4, 3.63) will start for Chattanooga and the Smokies will counter with Trey McNutt (3-5, 4.56). Wednesday is also Buck Night at Smokies Park, where hot dogs, small sodas and popcorn are only $1 each.
