Mississippi Braves News Release

Montgomery, AL - Behind a dominating pitching performance from left-hander Luis Avilan, the Mississippi Braves defeated the Montgomery Biscuits 4-1 on Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium. The win was the Braves' fifth straight and seventh in eight games.

Avilan and Biscuits starter Shane Dyer battled for much of the night, but it was the Braves' starter who won the duel, striking out a career-high eight and issuing just two walks in picking up his fourth win of the season.

Mississippi (29-29, 53-74) scored a run in the first inning on Ernesto Mejia's 34th double of the year, a two-out two-bagger plating Sean Henry.

The game stayed 1-0 until, with one out in the sixth, Mejia walked, Ed Lucas singled, and Donell Linares doubled in a run. A batter later, Cory Harrilchak plated Lucas on a groundout, and Braeden Schlehuber singled to bring in Linares from third and stake the Braves to a 4-0 lead.

Andrew Wilson replaced Avilan after five innings, allowing just two hits in three strong relief innings. Benino Pruneda then closed out the ballgame, allowing an unearned run on one hit in a non save situation.

Dyer took the loss for Montgomery (27-31, 61-67), his tenth of the season.

The M-Braves look to add onto their season long win streak on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM for game four with the Biscuits. Right-hander Aaron Shafer toes the rubber against Montgomery righty Alex Colome. Listen live at 103.9 FM or online at MississippiBraves.com.
