MOBILE, Ala. - A 4-1 advantage evaporated for the BayBears in the late innings on Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium as the Jackson Generals snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory.
Jarrod Parker was solid for the BayBears (76-50, 38-18) to start as he tossed six innings while surrendering a run on five hits. He retired the last 10 batters he faced after he allowed Jackson (62-65, 24-33) to grab a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI double from Chih-Hsien Chiang.
Parker was in line for his 12th win of the season when he left the contest. Billy Spottiswood replaced Parker in the seventh and coughed up two runs as Gabriel Noriega singled home Francisco Martinez and Chiang to pull within one.
Jackson completed the comeback in the top of the eighth against Kyler Newby (8-2). Scott Savastano started the frame with a two-bagger and scored on a throwing error from Josh Ford to tie the game at 4-4. Vinnie Catricala doubled Nick Franklin to the dish, putting the Generals on top.
Ollie Linton singled with one out in the eighth while Adam Eaton walked to put two men on, but A.J. Pollock bounced into a double play to end the threat. Ford was fanned by Stephen Pryor (S, 4) to finish the contest with the tying run at third.
Taylor Harbin homered for the BayBears to even the score at 1-1 in the second. Daryle Ward blooped a two-run double to left to put the BayBears ahead in the bottom of the fifth while Pollock added a sac fly in the sixth inning. Jackson relievers Moises Hernandez and Brian Moran (5-3) combined for a perfect seventh.
The BayBears lead in the South Division by 10.5 games with their magic number to clinch a South Division second half crown at 4. The BayBears host the Generals on Tuesday night at 7:05 in the third of their five-game series as they continue the final homestand of the regular season. Left-hander Tyler Skaggs (3-1) starts for the BayBears against fellow lefty James Gillheeney (0-3).
