Knoxville Smokies News Release
KODAK, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies' 1-2 punch of Eric Jokisch and Rebel Ridling was too much for the Chattanooga Lookouts to handle Monday night at Smokies Park. In front of 2,336 fans, the duo carried the Smokies to an 9-2 win over the Lookouts (34-22, 69-57) to improve to 32-24 on the season's second half, 76-51 overall. With the win, the Smokies move to 1.5 games behind Chattanooga for the second-half title.
After four scoreless frames, Chattanooga broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth, as Alfredo Silverio singled to score Brian Cavazos-Galvez and gave the Lookouts a 1-0 lead.
Tennessee roughed up Chattanooga starter Michael Antonini (9-9) with a big fifth inning. Jim Adduci and Junior Lake singled with one out, and Jae-Hoon Ha brought in Adduci with a single to right. Ridling followed with his 20th home run of the season to deep center, and Nate Samson later brought in Josh Vitters and Blake Lalli to put the Smokies ahead 6-1.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth, Blake Lalli extended the lead to 8-1 with a two-run single to scoring Adduci and Ridling.
Jokisch (1-0), making his Smokies Park debut, threw six innings all allowing just one run on three hits while striking out 10. In two starts, the lefty has struck out 12 in 10 innings, and has a 4.50 ERA with Tennessee this year.
Chattanooga added a run off Smokies reliever Oswaldo Martinez in the eighth, making it 8-2 on a Kyle Russell RBI groundout. The right-hander exited after two innings of work, allowing the one run while not surrendering a hit.
Ha reached on a throwing error to lead off the bottom half, and after advancing to second, came in on a Ridling single to push the lead to 9-2.
Ridling raised his batting average to .302 with three hits in the game. Adduci collected four hits on the night and raised his batting average to .333.
Kevin Rhoderick relieved Martinez and wrapped things up with a scoreless ninth, retiring the side in order.
Tennessee and Chattanooga battle in Game 3-of-5 Tuesday night at 7:15 p.m. at Smokies Park. Chicago Cubs pitcher Andrew Cashner (0-0, 0.00) will be making a major league rehab start and will face Chris Withrow (4-6, 4.55) for the Lookouts.
