MONTGOMERY, Ala. - John Matulia hit his second grand slam of the year but a seven-run hole was too much to overcome as the Biscuits (61-66) fell the the Mississippi Braves (53-74) by a final of 8-5 Monday at Riverwalk.

The Braves jumped out to an early lead against Chris Archer, getting one in the first and four in the fourth. Archer retired the first two men of that fourth inning before a walk and a hit batter set the table for a two-run triple from Dan Nelson. Ernesto Mejia would follow with a two-run homer, and it was 5-0. They'd make it 7-0 against Neil Schenk with two in the sixth.

The Biscuits got one back in the sixth on a Henry Wrigley sacrifice fly, and made it interesting when Matulia smoked his grand slam off Kenshin Kawakami in the eighth to cut it to 7-5.

After the Braves added an insurance run in the ninth, Billy Bullock (10) grabbed the save. Mississippi starter Zeke Spruill (3-1) hurled seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits to get the win. Archer (8-7) was chased after four, having allowed five runs on six hits and five walks.

Hak-Ju Lee and Cole Figueroa both had two hits.

Shane Dyer will face off against lefty Luis Avilan Tuesday at 7:05.
