Smith Promoted to Triple-A

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox have promoted Sea Dogs' right-handed pitcher Chris Smith to Triple-A Pawtucket. No countermove has yet been made, the Sea Dogs active roster currently stands at 23 players.

Smith is scheduled to start today for Pawtucket against LeHigh Valley replacing right-handed pitcher Bartolo Colon. Colon was placed on Pawtucket's 7-day disabled list, retroactive to April 4th, with a right oblique strain.

Smith has not appeared in a game with the Sea Dogs yet this season. Last season Smith posted a 6-9 record with a 4.41 ERA for the Sea Dogs. Smith has appeared in 79 games for the Sea Dogs over the past four seasons. His 24 career wins, ranks second all-time for the ball club.

The 26 year-old was drafted by the Red Sox in the fourth round of the June 2002 draft.

The Sea Dogs continue their three game series with the Connecticut Defenders tonight in Norwich, Connecticut. The Portland Sea Dogs home opener is slated for Friday, April 11th at 6:00 PM against the New Britain Rock Cats.
