Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Scott Seabol collected two hits, but Colorado Springs held the rest of the Albuquerque lineup at bay, as the Sky Sox (59-58) shutout the Isotopes (58-58) 4-0 Tuesday night at Isotopes Park.

The Sky Sox went ahead by a run in their first at-bat and wouldn't trail the rest of the way. Colorado Springs scored its first three runs via solo homers-two off the bat of second baseman Jayson Nix. The Isotopes managed just six hits on the night and totaled just eight base runners.

All four Sky Sox runs were tagged to Albuquerque starter Chris George (5-9). The left-hander allowed just six hits, but was a victim of the long ball. George walked three and punched out five over five innings of work.

After George's exit, the Isotopes bullpen was excellent. Four Isotopes relievers-Ben Julianel, Harvey Garcia, Erasmo Ramirez and Nate Field-each tossed a scoreless inning of relief. Julianel allowed a lead-off single in the sixth that was erased by a double play. After that, the Sky Sox didn't have another batter reach base.

The win went to Sky Sox starter Tim Harikkala (1-0). Making a spot start, Harikkala tossed six shutout innings, scattering five hits with a walk and a strikeout. Dan Serafini entered in the seventh and finished things off, tossing three scoreless frames to pick up his first save of the season. Serafini walked one and recorded one strikeout.

In the early-going, the Sky Sox went to the long ball to take a quick lead. Nix hit an 0-2 offering from George deep over the wall in left in the first inning, a solo shot that put Colorado Springs ahead 1-0.

In the third, it was more of the same. This time Clint Barmes smacked a solo shot to left to push the Sky Sox lead to 2-0.

Two innings later, Colorado Springs pushed two more across. Nix knocked home the first with a homer to straightaway centerfield, putting his club ahead 3-0. Two batters later, Joe Koshansky drove home Chris Iannetta with a run-scoring double to right to push the Colorado Springs lead to 4-0.

Albuquerque threatened the lead several times, but never was able to get over the top. The ‘Topes left two men stranded in the fourth, when a Brett Carroll ground ball ended a threat. In the eighth, the ‘Topes put two men on with one away in the inning. However, a Reggie Abercrombie strikeout and Valentino Pascucci line out ended the potential scoring opportunity, again stranding two.

Seabol was the lone ‘Tope to collect two hits on the night. Four other Albuquerque hitters finished with one hit apiece.

For the Sky Sox, Nix led the way with two hits-both home runs. Alexis Gomez had a 2-for-4 evening at the plate in a seven-hit effort for Colorado Springs.

The ‘Topes and Sky Sox close out the series on Wednesday night at The Lab. Left-hander Paul Mildren (5-7, 6.07) gets the nod for Albuquerque. He'll face-off with Colorado Springs southpaw Franklin Morales (1-0, 1.50). First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM.
