Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - Pushing to make it back to Houston in early September, Brandon Backe made his first Triple-A appearance for Round Rock on Tuesday, tossing 74 pitches and fanning four over 3 2/3 innings.
Backe scattered five hits and allowed two runs as the Salt Lake Bees went on to an 11-5 win in front of 9,111 fans at The Dell Diamond. The right-hander is scheduled to make at least four more starts with the Express.
Salt Lake put up six runs on five hits against relievers Paul Estrada and Brian Gordon in the top of the ninth inning.
Barry Wesson went 3-for-4, Brooks Conrad blasted his 18th home run of the season and Humberto Quintero finished 3-for-4 with a solo shot in the seventh and a three-run homer into the home bullpen in the ninth.
Making first appearance for Round Rock since July 14 of last year, Backe allowed a run in the first and gave up a triple and a single in the fourth before being pulled for Juan Gutierrez, who rejoined Round Rock from Houston before Tuesday's game.
Backe underwent Tommy John ligament repair surgery more than 11 months ago and made his first start of the season with the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks on Aug. 2. He worked five innings in that effort.
The two teams meet again Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at The Dell Diamond. The game can be heard live on 1260 AM, 1530 AM or at www.roundrockexpress.com.
