Beloit, WI - A four-run fourth inning and a three-run fifth inning gave the Sky Carp a 7-0 lead Saturday afternoon, one they would carry to victory, beating the Kernels 7-1.

Orlando Rodriguez made his first start of the season for Cedar Rapids, and after three clean innings to begin his day, the right-hander ran into some trouble in the fourth. Following two quick outs to begin the frame, a double, hit-by-pitch, and a walk loaded the bases. After an error plated Yiddi Cappe, the bases stayed loaded for Bennett Hostetler, who cleared the bags with a wall-ball double to open up the game for Beloit 4-0, ending Rodriguez's outing.

Rodriguez was not charged with an earned run on the day but was charged with the loss, his final line read: 3.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 1 K.

With John Stankiewicz on the mound in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Beloit offense struck again. Back-to-back singles started the frame, putting two runners on base and a Davis Bradshaw single scored Jacob Berry to make the game 5-0. Next batter Ynmanol Marinez grounded a double down the left-field line scoring both runners to put the Sky Carp ahead 7-0.

The Kernels got a run back in the eighth inning on an RBI groundout by Kala'i Rosario after a Jeferson Morales single and an Ernie Yake double put runners on second and third. That run made the score 7-1, which would be the final.

Beloit improves to 9-4 with the win, while the Kernels fall to 5-8. The two sides meet again in the series finale tomorrow afternoon. Pierson Ohl makes his second start of the season for Cedar Rapids opposite Beloit's Holt Jones.
