EASTLAKE, Ohio - Joe Lampe's two-out, walk-off RBI single gave the Lake County Captains (7-4) their second consecutive victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (6-5), this time by a final score of 3-2, at Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake.

The Midwest League leader in batting average recorded his sixth multi-hit game of the season, finishing 2-4 with the game's winning RBI.

The Captains got off to an efficient start in the first, loading the bases with three consecutive singles. Right fielder Jorge Burgos then drew a bases-loaded walk, giving Lake County the first run of the game. The team could not provide any more run support in the inning, though, as Lansing starting pitcher Joelvis Del Rosario stuck out the next three Captains hitters in order to end the inning.

Lansing left fielder Lazaro Armenteros led off the second with a triple, giving the Lugnuts an early runner in scoring position. Soon after, second baseman Euribiel Angeles hit a ground ball to Captains pitcher Will Dion for a potential inning-ending double play opportunity.

However, a missed-catch error by second baseman Christian Cairo allowed Armenteros to score, tying the game at 1-1. Dion eventually got out of the inning, but not before throwing 31 pitches in the frame.

In the second, following a Dayan Frias single and Cairo walk, designated hitter Juan Brito hit an RBI single, putting Lake County on top 2-1. This was Brito's second hit of the day, as he extended his hitting streak to seven consecutive games.

The Captains had runners at second and third, but Burgos grounded into a 6-4-3 double play that ended the inning.

The next three innings would be scoreless from both sides. In the third, each team was retired in order, with Dion throwing two strikeouts, and Del Rosario throwing one. The fourth inning began with Dion striking out the first two Lugnuts hitters in order, after which he was removed from the game.

In his first start of the season, the Lake County left-hander struck out six while allowing one hit, one earned run, and two walks in 3.2 innings of work.

Right-hander Josh Wolf came into the game in relief, stranding runners on second and third to maintain the Captains' lead.

After Lansing right fielder Caeden Trenkle walked, the next five combined hitters from both sides were retired.

In the sixth, Armenteros reached on a throwing error by Frias. After Lake County reliever Sergio Morillo entered the game, Armenteros would eventually score on a sacrifice fly from center fielder Junior Perez, which tied the game at 2-2. In the bottom of the inning, Lake County's hitters were retired in order.

Despite drawing two walks in the seventh, the Lugnuts failed to score, leaving the game tied at 2-2 heading into the home half of the inning. Back-to-back singles from Christian Cairo and Juan Brito put runners on first and second for Lake County. Eventually, with two outs, Lansing left-hander John Beller entered the game. On just his second pitch, Joe Lampe brought home the winning run.

Game 2 of today's doubleheader, a makeup of Tuesday's postponement, is scheduled to begin at 7:20 PM. Coverage of the game can be found on both Bally Live and MiLB.tv, as well as through @LCCaptains on Twitter and Instagram.
