Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
(ROUND ROCK, Texas) - The Sugar Land Skeeters dropped a 4-3 decision Friday night to the Round Rock Express at Dell Diamond.
Skeeters right-hander Michael Kelly surrendered an RBI single to Yohel Pozo in the bottom of the eighth as the Express erased a 3-0 deficit.
The Skeeters jumped out to a 3-0 midway through the game, with JJ Matijevic hitting a solo home run in the first and Norel Gonzalez adding a two-run shot in the fourth. Both Matijevic and Gonzalez have homered in back-to-back games to open the road trip in Round Rock. It was also Matijevic's 18th homer of the year, combined with his time with Double A Corpus Christi, which is the second-most of Astros minor leaguers.
Skeeters starter Peter Solomon went six innings and allowed two runs on three hits, while striking out six, to collect a no-decision.
Round Rock outfielder Leody Taveras made it a 3-2 game in the bottom of the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-run home run to center field - his 15th of the year.
Alex Bregman continued his MLB Rehab Assignment with the Skeeters, going 1-for-3 with a single and a pair of walks in his fifth appearance with the Skeeters. Bregman batted leadoff and started at third base Friday night.
Pedro Baez also continued his rehab stint, allowing a run in an inning of relief (17 pitches) . It was the first time in his rehab assignment that he appeared in back-to-back nights. Baez, who has spent the entire regular season on the 60-Day Injured List with right shoulder soreness, has made eight rehab appearances (six with the Skeeters).
Right-hander Jacob Lemoine received the win for Round Rock, pitching two scoreless innings of relief to finish out the game.
The Skeeters and Express meet again at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday at Dell Diamond, with right-handers Shawn Dubin and Glenn Otto squaring off on the mound.
Tickets for the rest of the Skeeters' 2021 regular season are on sale and can be purchased by visiting sugarlandskeeters.com/tickets.
